Writer produces church history for parish funds

WHETHER the mystery lies in the soil or the stained glass of a parish church, the tall man will have the answer.

For after many years with as a senior journalist and gardening correspondent on the Daily Post, Peter Surridge has written a 15,000-word history of St Hildeburgh’s Church, Hoylake, Wirral.

In the crisp style of an experienced writer, Peter, 68, tells the story of the church which opened in 1899.

He has packed the book with anecdotes and illustrated it with 30 of his own photographs.

Peter is retired now, but many readers will remember him as the senior assistant editor on the Post and gardening writer from 1980 to 2006.

The book, at £4.50, is available at local newsagents and Lingham’s book shop, West Kirby. It can also be ordered on-line from Amazon.

Proceeds will go to parish funds.
