LIVERPOOL rock band The Crew are the headliners of the upcoming Summer Rockwerk Festival.
The band – brothers Tom and Michael Crew, Al Brown and Ian Longmore – have had a busy year, playing regularly on home turf with gigs at the Carling Academy, The Cavern Studio, Barfly and Zanzibar, as well as around the UK, includ- ing supporting New Order legend Peter Hook at Manchester’s Hard Rock Café.
Tom, Al and Michael are all classically-trained musicians, born and bred in the city. All four studied at Liverpool University, where Michael and Ian continue to study music.
The band are due to support Starsailor on their forthcoming tour and, having stormed this year’s University of Liverpool Battle of the Bands competition, have secured a slot as a regular support act for touring bands at the Mountford Hall.
The band’s influences range from Cream to Kraftwerk, and their second EP is due for release later in 2008.
Says Michael: “We even had one of our songs played in The Jockey on Channel 4’s Shameless last year – you know you’ve made it when Frank Gallagher’s a fan!”
Tickets for the Summer Rockwerk Festival, at Barfly on Seel Street on Saturday, are available online from glasswerk.co.uk. Headliners on other stages are The Pioneers and Forgotten Angels.
