Liverpool hosts four-day feast of dance

MERSEYSIDE Dance Initiative has programmed another high-profile dance festival in the Capital of Culture year.

Following the huge success of British Dance: Edition 2008 and Leap Dance Festival, Capital Nights 2008 is a pan-European event bringing the finest contemporary dance companies from across the continent to Liverpool for four days this autumn.

The festival will explore dance that is both classical in nature but also experimental, through a variety of companies based in cities and countries that have been named European Capitals of Culture in the past.

From October 29 to November 1, dance lovers can explore the depth and diversity of the cultural capital through an exciting dance experience.

Capital Nights 2008 will feature companies from Ireland, Holland, Italy and the UK and highlights many Liverpool-based dance companies, including Andrea Buckley, Taci- turn, Collisions, House of Suarez and Guerilla Dance, the festival also includes the acclaimed Galili Dance and Anouk van Dijk.

Festival Artistic Producer and MDI Director Karen Gallagher said: “This is an incredibly exciting mix of companies.

“Dance in this city has gone from strength to strength with more people choosing to experience contemporary dance than ever before.”
