A NEW choir for St Helens is being formed as part of an upcoming singing extravaganza.
Live music venue the Citadel, in association with St Helens Council, is launching the choir on September 10 as part of the pan-Merseyside vocal event Sing Out 08.
The programme will bring together singers of all ages and abilities from St Helens, Halton, Knowsley and Sefton, who will perform a specially commissioned piece, by BAFTA award winning composer Bill Connor, in honour of Liverpool’s Capital of Culture year.
Bill has an extensive resumé, encompassing work with the BBC and a wealth of community singing projects.
Sing Out 08 co-ordinator Garth Jones says: “This is a unique opportunity for local singers to work with an internationally renowned composer and to make their mark on the Capital of Culture year.”
Leading the choir will be Gareth Owens, well known to many for his involvement with community music groups in St Helens.
The Citadel choir is open to all ages, male and female. No experience is necessary, and nor is the ability to read music.
Participants are also invited to attend a training day with Bill at The Brindley Arts Centre, Runcorn, on Sunday, September 7 – places are limited.
To reserve your place for both the choir and training day, contact The Citadel box office on 01744 735436 or by email at info@ citadel.org.uk
