Yoko Ono (158)
YOKO ONO is preparing a new installation for the Liverpool Biennial and is appealing to the public for help completing it by donating... stepladders?
Her new commission, Liverpool Skyladders, will be exhibited in the ruins of St Luke’s Church, where over the course of the 10-week long art festival a forest of stepladders will grow inside.
Organisers say that the work will invite us all to find space for dreams and the imagination under the open skies.
Ladders of any description can be delivered to St. Luke’s Church between September 15-17 (11am to 5pm), and September 18-21 (10am to 6pm).
Following the Biennial, the artwork will be donated to charity. Lewis Biggs, chief executive of Liverpool Biennial, said, “Our commissions outside the gallery are a powerful way of involving the widest public, and have become one of its best-loved features.
“This year’s bumper crop will be not only surprising and enjoyable, but will inspire further thought about how art can impact on the developing cityscape.”
Ono’s work frequently consists of an invitation to participate in an act of the imagination – she performed in the city with a one-off show at the Bluecoat in April in which she bought up the audience to dance with her for peace.
