FOUR Liverpudlian sculptors with a passion for exhibiting in unusual spaces have teamed up to display in a gallery based in the basement of a North Wales estate agents.
George Baker, Roxy Topia, Patrick Gould and Gabriel Stones have got together for More Than This, which can be viewed at Oriel Dafydd Hardy, in Caernarfon.
They say: “Rather than have to wait for formal shows, the four of us have been exhibiting in informal spaces – houses, studios and the more easily accessible spaces in and around Liverpool.
“As a whole, sculpture so often relies on a smart or isolated presentation in order to define its boundaries and meaning, and this autonomy is undermined straight away in such fuzzy surroundings as a house or a studio.
“Our sculptures here use form and autonomy, but share an immediacy and intimacy that is comfortable for an unpretentious environment.
“Therefore, we are very pleased to have this opportunity to exhibit more formally in Oriel Dafydd Hardy – our sculpture should be very much at home there.”
Oriel Dafydd Hardy is a youth-focused gallery that was set up to provide opportunity for a young arts community to develop without having to leave the town, to bridge the gap between the creative interaction of the college studio.
