A NEW exhibition showing the provocative work of an artist with a background in taxidermy is now on show at a Liverpool gallery.
Stuck on a Country Road Behind an Artic’ Truck, by Leeds-based Ebony Andrews, can be seen at the New Slaughterhouse, in Garston. It is an exhibition of works produced by the artist over the last five years.
“Ebony’s work is so different to anything I’ve seen in Liverpool for a while,” said curator Alex Corina, who was compelled to bring the artist’s work to the city after seeing an exhibition in Yorkshire.
Set firmly – and literally – in the realm of the animal kingdom, Ebony's recent works take both direct and indirect influences from her own exper- iences, continuing to explore new avenues of “zoological controversy”.
She says: "When I was seven, I asked for a pond for my birthday so that I could play with frogs. Over the years, the beautifully unique ecosystem that developed in the pond proved to be an inexhaustible source of joy and intrigue for me.
“It laid the foundation for my interest in animals and natural history. I never had a doll."
The exhibition runs until September 29. The New Slaughterhouse Gallery, on St Mary’s Road, is open Tuesday to Saturday, 1pm to 5pm.
