Sefton short film festival to screen 100 entries

SEFTON Short Film Festival is celebrating Capital of Culture year in style with an event packed with films from across the UK and all around the globe.

The three-day festival, screening 100 films, starts on Wednesday at Southport Arts Centre with a compilation of the best entries received from 2005 to 2007, followed by five more programmes each showing a different selection of short films covering a wide range of genres, from comedy to drama, horror, animation and documentaries.

"We’ve had great entries from such diverse countries as Iraq, Turkey, Russia, Canada and Columbia," said festival organiser Ann Monks.

"We’ll be featuring them in a special all International Programme on the Wednesday evening."

The Best of Liverpool Programme will show films made by local film-makers or having the Capital of Culture city as a backdrop, from comedy and drama on the streets, to a horror film set in Crosby’s Plaza Cinema, and a quirky music video set in Kirkdale with local residents taking part.

"We’ll be showing 100 films over the three days, "Ann said.

"Nowhere else in the North West is there anything like this."

The Festival has daily matinees at 1pm and evening performances at 7pm, every programme different, tickets £3.50 per Programme and £2.00 concessions.
