A NEW exhibition at Mathew Street’s View Two gallery, opening tonight, is taking a look at the Merseyside artists operating under the radar as the Biennial grabs the spotlight.
Local Heroes examines the difference between big money international art and those with more humble means.
Guest artists include Graeme Currie, Rhonda Davies, Penny Davenport, Kev Grey, Sarah Gladden, Thomas Jacobi, Neil Keating, Emily Lansley, Sam Meech, Chiz Turnross and Elizabeth Willow.
All artists taking part are based in Merseyside.
Following the opening party tonight with music from Emily and the Faves, Alex Mountaineer, Chiz, and The Lofty Heights, special events include A Small Cinema (7pm, Friday) a temporary installa-tion designed to create an intimate moviegoing experience and featuring the best short films by filmmakers from across Liverpool. Admis-sion is 25p and popcorn and refreshments will be available.
Next Wednesday (October 29, 7pm), there will be a debate entitled I Don’t Know Much About Football, but I Know What I Like, hosted by John O’Shea and investigating links between art and football.
Lost Voices (Thursday October 30, 7pm, £5/£3) features three musical acts including dance from city-based accordionists Matthew Wood and Jesús Peñaranda.
The closing party on Nov 1 (free, 7pm ‘til late), promises live music from Mela Cody, Bernard, Routes to Routes, Pete Bentham and the Dinner Ladies and special guests.
