Charlie’s home date to have some fun

PERENNIAL favourite Charlie Landsborough returns to home soil this week. The Birkenhead-based singer-songwriter has another popular date at the Phil on Saturday night and says he’s looking forward to getting back to his now regular haunt.

“It’s great fun playing nice places and have people coming out of their way to watch you,” he says.

“I’ve had some of the best nights ever playing back home. That balance of people who have been watching me play in pubs over the years, friends and family makes a fantastic night.

“The crowd has its own unique flavour you won’t get anywhere else, it’s a joy to come back home.”

On stage, Landsborough mixes his own material with that of other people.

Accompanied his five-piece band, his music ranges from easy-listening to country, and from ballad to anthem.

The new tour will feature material from Charlie’s latest album, Under Blue Skies.

Of his live set, he says: “It’s a bit of a balancing act. I’ve got lots of albums, so we pick and mix – I can’t leave out what I’m known for, fan favourites like What Colour is the Wind, and I can resurrect songs I haven’t done for a long time, interspersed with a few covers.”

Former schoolteacher Landsborough has been writing dozens of new songs with the hope of releasing a new album next spring, as well as fitting in his now annual string of Australian tour dates. “Inspiration for my songs comes from all sorts of different places,” he says. “Sometimes I’ve none at all, sometimes you start with an idea and halfway through you come up with an idea that’s better than the original.

“Sometimes you just do something without thinking and surprise yourself.

“I write lots and lots of stuff. Most is pretty awful but the more shots at the goal, the more likely you are to score!”

Charlie Landsborough plays the Philharmonic Hall on November 15. Tickets: £17.50, £22.50 (boxes).Box office: 0151 709 3789.
