Take a LEAP into dance festival

LEAP, Liverpool’s leading contemporary dance festival, has announced its programme for 2009.

Merseyside Dance Initiative brings an impressive two-week feast of dance to the region in March from a range of local, national and international artists and companies including New Art Club, Protein, Bare Bones and Henri Oguike.

LEAP 09 will be the 17th festival, and in 2009 will take the theme of Words in Motion. Next year, it will introduce work in new venues such as the new New Brighton Floral Pavilion and the Contemporary Urban Centre, as well as the Unity Theatre and Southport Arts Centre.

LEAP 09 will aim to build on the legacy of the European Capital of Culture year. MDI contributed to the culture year’s success in 2008 with British Dance Edition, LEAP 08 and Capital Nights dance festival all taking place.

MDI director Karen Gallagher said: “I am really excited with our 2009 programme of dance, there is without doubt something to suit everybody’s tastes.”
