Daily Post photographer Colin Lane has added another three major awards to his already packed glass cabinet. Here he shares his favourite images:
"I TOOK this from the top of the Post & Echo building on Old Hall Street," explains Colin, who has been named Photographer of the Year in three separate competitions this year – the 02 Media Awards, the Northwest Newspaper Awards and the Press Gazette Regional Press Awards.
"The sun was setting and the only visible building in the city was Liverpool Cathedral. It reminds me of that famous picture of St Paul’s Cathedral in the Blitz."
COLIN covered the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul, when Liverpool won the cup for the fifth time. This is just one of the photographs he took.
"Steven Gerrard showed pure emotion lifting the European Cup," he says.
"Earlier, I took another picture when the whistle went after the dramatic penalty shootout. I made the decision to follow the nearest Scouser, which happened to be Jamie Carragher who ran to the crowd hugging them and saluting the ‘twelfth man’. That one is now proudly displayed in black and white in the entrance of his Sports Café England."
Both photographs were included in the portfolio of Colin’s work that won him The Getty Images Regional Photographer of the Year in The Picture Editor’s Awards 2006.
"THIS one reminds me of a Parisian cafe scene but it was actually taken in the Quarter on Faulkner Street, Liverpool," recalls Colin.
"So many friends and family have this on their walls and it has even been compared by some to the artist Edward Hopper."
COLIN was standing on a ladder on a special platform organised by Buckingham Palace when he took this photograph of Diana, Princess of Wales’ funeral parade.
"It was such a piece of history," he says. "Only 250 of the world’s media were allowed on the platform and the Post & Echo were the only regional newspapers there. We had to wear dark suits."
