Fund to restore Hulley’s grave

A FUND has been started to restore the grave of John Hulley, who rests in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Smithdown Road, Liverpool.

It was started by Ray Hulley, 71, a retired civil servant from Hemel Hempstead, Herts, who is a regular jogger family historian and member of the Guild of One-Name Studies (the Goons for short).

Although he is probably not related to John, Ray is fascinated by the man who started the Olympics in Liverpool.

John married a Georgina Bolton, the daughter of a wealthy and well-connected merchant, which helped his ambitions.

“The very least Liverpool can do is have his grave memorial restored,” says Ray, a father of three. To this end, he has set up an online fund, wwwjohnhulleymemorialfund.co.uk
