BLUNT fringes, voluminous hair and up-dos all looked fabulous on models sashaying down the catwalk at Fashion Weeks around the world, but these dramatic hairstyles can often be difficult to carry into our everyday lives.
Unless you work in a creative field like fashion or the media, you can be sure that your boss would prefer you with a more conservative hairdo than something that takes the attention away from your work.
That is not stopping us from asking for them, however, according to Stina Andersen, team leader at the Vidal Sassoon salon in Liverpool's Metquarter. Here are some of the hot looks we are asking for right now.
Victoria Beckham still dominates the hairwaves, says Stina, with the bob undoubtedly the most requested cut at Vidal Sassoon right now.
"She is extremely popular and very influential. The bob is still very in. When we talk about it, though, we talk more about the old Twiggy look from the '60s." The new age Purdy cut - similar to Naomi Campbell's new hairstyle - is another retro style that's being reinvented for spring/summer 2007.
"I just saw that cut on Naomi this week. I expect to see a lot of women going for that," says Stina. "Again, it is a really strong look and looks a bit more back to the '80s."
After years of wispy, baby and side-swept fringes, the big, blunt fringe a la Lily Allen is back with a vengeance, it seems. And if you are worried about veering into schoolgirl territory, think again, because stylists say every woman can look feminine, desirable and enigmatic with a fringe.
The emphasis on graphic bold lines now gives the fringe a modern seductive edge, and there's a look to suit everyone - it's even sported by Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada.
"Fringes are a really big look right now," says Stina. "We are getting a lot of women coming in and asking for them. There is a real retro vibe at the moment looking back to the '60s and the '80s, and the fringe sits well with that."
