THE wind may be howling, the rain could be pouring from the clouds, and the fog could be shrouding the landscape – but that would not stop the racegoers from putting on their gladrags and enjoying Ladies Day.

Each year, they bravely face the weather in summer dresses bought especially for the event – and even in the occasional bikini.

Anything goes, as long as the emphasis is on feeling as good as you can about your appearance and on having a good time.

If that means blisters from wearing heels all day, or permanent goosebumps, then so be it, but there’s also the option of taking a pashima along with you and a pair of roll-up flats in your handbag.
