Caliste short pleated skirt, £69; Babs cotton tank, £35
FASHION tends to be all about extremes, so while the shops are filled with vivid colours this summer there are also pieces entirely absent of it.
Monochrome is one of those looks that seems to make it through each year – whether in the autumn/winter or spring/summer collections.
Inspiration comes from Beatnik beauty Edie Sedgwick or the ’80s two-tone movement.

Pristine whites combined with pitch black can be both casual and formal, but it looks most sophisticated when worn with well-groomed hair and make-up.
* THE setting for this week’s shoot is the Crowne Plaza hotel, located next to the Royal Liver Building and overlooking the River Mersey.
Built in 1998, it heralded a change in the quality of the city’s hotel industry.
The hotel features a health centre – the Harbour Club – and the Plaza Brasserie, which serves a range of modern, international dishes.
