Setting the standard

BACK in 1982, the following standard clothing size system, the catchily-named BS 3666:1982, was produced for manufacturers:

SIZE 8 : hips 32.7 – 34.3; bust 30.7 – 32.3

SIZE 10: hips 34.3 – 35.9; bust 32.3 – 33.9

SIZE 12: hips 35.8 – 37.4; bust 33.9 – 35.4

SIZE 14: hips 37.4 – 39.0; bust 35.4 – 37.0

SIZE 16: hips 39.4 – 40.9; bust 37.4 – 39.0

SIZE 18: hips 41.3 – 42.9; bust 39.4 – 40.9
