YOU’D never dream of asking a stranger if you can finish his discarded fish and chips, or of sipping the dregs of someone else’s pint but, when it comes to clothing, sloppy seconds are the ultimate must-have.
Vintage shopping is like a fashion safari – hunting for that elusive one-off piece at a bargain price – and the big game is from the 1920s and 30s.
Pair fringed flapper dresses or sweeping floor-length gowns with modern accessories for an up-to-date look, or add a feather headband to keep it contemporary.

* THE set of the Playhouse’s new musical, Once Upon a Time at the Adelphi, provides the ideal backdrop of 1930s splendour for this week’s fashion shoot.
Amid the chaos and decadence, no-nonsense Alice from Reception has fallen for the dashing Thompson from Accounts – but fate, Hollywood, World War II and a dizzying array of staff and guests intervene in an epic Liverpool love story spanning sixty years.
Written especially for Capital of Culture year, the show has been so popular that its run has been extended to August 2.
