Jane Lloyd talks to three fashion-loving women about their picks for autumn/ winter
AS THE new season kicks in, are you looking at your clothes with despair? Do you wonder how it matches up to other women’s? Here, three fashion- loving local ladies let us in on their style secrets, reveal their picks for autumn/ winter and tell us of the treasures in their own wardrobes.
The Model
Having travelled the world walking the runway for designers like Betty Jackson and Angel Sanchez and graced the pages of numerous fashion magazines, Alex Leigh, 29, from Cheshire, has learnt a thing or two about fashion over the years.
Must-have outfit? Although black is back, I prefer prints and vibrant colours. I currently have my eye on a fitted, green floral number by Michael Kors.
Three pieces you’d buy if money weren’t an option? A Tod’s Alligator bag would be perfect for fitting all the junk I carry around with me on castings.
I’d also love a completely over- the-top Bottega Veneta coat that makes such a statement you could only wear it once, but you did say money wasn’t an option.
And, finally, I’d buy the limited edition watch that Claudia Schiffer wore to the opening of the Venice Film Festival. It’s a collaboration between Alberta Ferretti and Chopard called Watch Couture and expected to fetch around 300,000 euros when it eventually goes on auction.
Favourite designers? Jasper Conran. I used to do all of his shows.
His outfits are elegant and timeless.
I also love Roland Mouret, Roberto Cavalli and Michael Kors, because they understand how to dress a women’s body.
Favourite stores? Because I am always pushed for time, I usually end up going to one of the big department stores, like Selfridges or Harvey Nichols, because I know everything I need is under the one roof.
I hate wasting time running from shop to shop.
Which celebrity do you think always gets it right? I would kill for Charlize Theron’s wardrobe – but I also like the way Katie Holmes has blossomed. She’s not afraid to experiment, so occasionally gets it wrong – but isn’t that what fashion’s about?
Favourite going-out outfit? My best show-stopper was a real bargain. I’d looked everywhere for a little black dress and was having no luck.
After trawling around town, I found the most amazing, low-cut, floor-length gown by Emma Somerset in a local boutique.
And, to top it off, it was half price.
