For the latest trend, think Victorian splendour rather than grim Gothic. Laura Davis reports
Left: Katerina shirt, £125. Right: Parachute dress, £325
FASHION explores its darker side with an edgy take on the traditional Gothic look.
Ruffles and high collars give the style a feel of Victoriana, while other cuts are right up-to-date with maxi dresses, tailored jackets and layered frocks in rich black fabrics and monochrome prints.
Left: Delia dress, £120. Right: Vordana tailcoat, £150; Vordana shorts, £80; Deadflowers top, £45
Think Kate Beckinsale in Underworld, rather than Morticia Adams, and leave the black lipstick in the back of the dressing table, along with other teenage fancies like glitter lip balm and mood rings.
* THE backdrop for this week’s fashion shoot is Alma de Cuba, the bar-restaurant set inside the former St Peter’s Catholic Church, on Seel Street.
Right: Calavera maxi dress, £220
Winner of UK’s Best Venue in the 2008 Retailer of the Year Awards, the venue has an eclectic mix of Cuban, Hispanic and Latin American influences.
The menu features flavours from around the world, particularly Caribbean, Spanish and Latin American.
