Philip Key meets the man who becomes the ex-Beatle.
Sweet Soul Music, due at Birkenhead's Pacific Road Arts Centre on September 22, he describes as "a cross between The Commitments and Blues Brothers".
Another show Whose Who? celebrates the 1960s British invasion of the USA with bands like The Kinks, Small Faces , Rolling Stones, The Who and The Hollies. "In fact, every band EXCEPT the Beatles. It's a proper dressed show but while we do not do lookalikes we do try our best to sound like the originals."
As if that weren't enough, Lornie also plans next year to resurrect his stage show celebrating the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper album, a show he first staged ten years ago at the Liverpool Playhouse. "It's the anniversary of the show, the 40th anniversary of the album and the 800th birthday of Liverpool," he explains. Negotiations continue as to the exact venue.
He is also part of the band for the musical Twopence to Cross the Mersey at the Liverpool Empire next year. It is the one show he does not produce himself.
