The Backbeat Beatles launch Beatles Day in Liverpool _320
LIVERPOOL’S first-ever Beatles Day gets under way today with a string of events, including tribute bands and buskers.
A “Beatles bus route” will tour schools in the area, beginning its journey at 9am at the Pier Head and finishing at 6pm at the Echo Arena.
Tribute band the Backbeat Beatles will be on the Mersey Ferry from 6.30am to 9am.
They will also be appearing on the steps of the World Museum Liverpool from 11.30am to noon and will play on the roof of the Echo Arena at 3pm.
Other tribute acts will perform on the roofs of BBC Radio Merseyside in Hanover Street, the 08 Place in Whitechapel, and the Radio City Tower.
In the evening, Imagine: The Concert will see artists including the Quarrymen, Gerry Marsden, John Power and Ian McNabb play Beatles’ favourites.
Thousands of mop-top Beatles’ wigs will be on sale across the city, along with inflatable guitars. The day marks the 44th anniversary of the return of the band to their native city, after completing a tour of America.
