Eviction hanging shock

A MAN was last night fighting for his life after a bailiff who had come to repossess his Wirral home found him hanging.

Paramedics were called to the property in Duke Street, Birkenhead just after 11am yesterday.

At first it was thought there were no signs of life but paramedics are believed to have found a pulse and the man, believed to be in his 50s, was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital.

The bailiff from Birkenhead County Court had attended the property, accompanied by a locksmith, just after 11am.

But when they got no answer the locksmith opened the door and it was then the man was discovered.

A spokesman for Her Majesty’s Court Service confirmed a bailiff from Birkenhead County Court had made the shocking discovery.

He said: “It was a repossession, and there was a locksmith with them.

“If there is no answer the locksmith will open the door, and that is how they found him.”

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said that they had been called along with paramedics when the bailiff and locksmith made their discovery.

According to the police, the man had been conscious on the way to Arrowe Park Hospital’s A&E department which had been put on standby, and he was later transferred to intensive care.
