Prisoners scale roof of Walton Prison

Walton Prison

A TEAM of striking prison officers temporarily broke off industrial action to tackle three prisoners who climbed on to the roof of Walton Prison today.

Sixteen officers dealt with the inmates, who were on the roof of the prison’s H-wing, which is a vulnerable prisoner unit, from 2pm until 2.55pm.

After containing the situation, the officers rejoined around 200 others on the picket line outside the prison.

Earlier today, the Ministry of Justice won a High Court injunction to stop the illegal national strike over pay by thousands of prison officers.

Mr Justice Ramsey said the prisons are up to capacity and the effect of any strike in the prison service has "particularly difficult consequences".
