Sugababe appeals for help in Rhys hunt

Sugababe Heidi Range today added her support to police appeals for witnesses to the shooting of Rhys Jones.

Heidi, who grew up in Maghull, near Liverpool, spoke to GMTV this morning from Croxteth, the scene of Rhys’s murder.

The singer described the killing as devastating, and added: “It’s just heartbreaking that this is going on and it’s happened to such a young boy who didn’t deserve it.”

Heidi, 23, told GMTV’s Kate Garraway she was shocked that the murder had happened in the area which she knows well.

She said: “It’s a nice area. I grew up 10 minutes down the road.

“My dad lived here for a number of years and my mum still works here.

“I’ve always felt that it’s a safe area.

“This is not just a problem in Liverpool, it’s all over the country.

“It shouldn’t be going on. It shouldn’t be like this. Something needs to be done because this is happening everywhere now.”

Heidi said she was “proud about being from Liverpool” and added: “In any situation, there’s always a community atmosphere and everybody stands together.”

The singer also made an appeal to the public.

“Anyone with any information, please come forward to help Rhys’s parents come to terms with what’s happened and do the right thing by contacting the police,” she said.

In recent days several players at Rhys’s football team, Everton FC, as well as Liverpool’s captain Steven Gerrard have made witness appeals on behalf of the police investigation team.
