Liam Smith murder trial: man acquitted

Liam 'Smigger' Smith

A MAN has been acquitted of murdering Liverpool teenager Liam Smith (pictured).

Anthony Rimmer’s trial ended last month when a Liverpool crown court jury failed to reach a verdict.

He had been accused of being involved in the shooting of Mr Smith, a member of the Norris Green Strand gang.

Mr Smith, who was known as Smigger, was shot in the head as he left Altcourse prison after visiting a friend on August 23 last year.

Two men and a 16-year-old boy from the rival Croxteth Crew gang were convicted of murder and a man was found guilty to manslaughter and they will be sentenced later.

Rimmer, of Parkview Road, Croxteth, had denied murder.

Neil Flewitt QC, prosecuting, told the court no evidence would be offered in his case, which means he will not face a retrial and has been cleared of the charge.

Rimmer had admitted possessing cannabis and was conditionally discharged for 12 months.
