Hundreds will celebrate life of teacher killed on school trip

MORE than 700 people are today expected to attend a service celebrating the life of a popular Merseyside teacher who died in a rafting accident during a school trip in Australia.

Ian Robinson, head of rugby at Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ school in Crosby, was on a sporting tour with students in July when the tragic accident happened.

Today, Mr Robinson’s family, school staff and pupils, rugby coaches from around the UK and other invited guests will attend the service of thanksgiving at St Faith’s Church in Liverpool Road, Crosby.

Mr Robinson, 47, died on July 31 while white-water rafting with pupils on the Tully River, near Cairns, in Queensland.

Mr Robinson, originally from Cumbria, lived in St Helens with his wife Liz.

His funeral was held on August 17 in St Helens. Today’s service is for invited guests only.
