JLA runway intruder pleads guilty

John Lennon Airport

A MAN who broke onto the runway at Liverpool’s John Lennon Airport and boarded a pane has been conditionally discharged for two years by magistrates.

Waldemar Rejowski, 47, of no fixed abode, was charged under the Aviation Security Act, for breaching security and boarding the Thomsonfly plane which was about to take off for Spain.

Mr Rejowski was arrested on the plane at 6am on Saturday after walking through airfield control point barriers and appeared before Liverpool Magistrates on Monday.

An internal investigation into the security breach is currently underway at the airport to establish what went wrong.

But airport spokesman Robin Tudor said while the Department of Transport had been informed of the incident they were satisfied with the security measures that are in place at the airport and will not be launching their own inquiry.
