Rhys Jones killer told: We know who you are

The chief constable of Merseyside Police has revealed that he is “confident” he knows the identity of Rhys Jones’s killer.

Speaking 11 weeks after the 11-year-old was shot in the neck by a hooded youth on a mountain bike in Croxteth Park, Liverpool, Bernard Hogan-Howe reiterated appeals for the killer to give himself up.

He said: “If the person is listening, we are confident we know who you are and are building a case against you.”

Police have indicated previously they have an idea of the killer’s identity and the main task continues to be gathering sufficient evidence.

The chief constable insisted his officers are building their case against the killer.

He added: “People will have to judge us by the circumstances as they develop over the next few weeks and months.

“We will get the person who committed this crime.”

Police are still trying to trace a woman in a red car and a boy on a silver bike they believe could be key witnesses.

Appeals for information continue to be made in Croxteth, and the neighbouring Norris Green estate and at Liverpool and Everton football games.

Last week, the name of a prime suspect appeared on a popular internet site.
