Sion hardy

FOUR MEN have been arrested after a student has been killed while enjoying a night out with friends in Liverpool city centre.

The arrests came hours after Merseyside Police launched a murder investigation following the death of Sion Hardy, a third year civic design student, from Bangor.

The student, was enjoying a university event with pals at Liverpool’s Medication Bar, (pictured), prior to his death.

Police were alerted by the ambulance service at 2.48am after they were called to aid 24-year-old Sion, who had been assaulted.

Sion was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where he died a short while later.

It is believed Sion had become involved in an argument with a man he knew as he walked through a short tunnel from Turnage Road.

A university spokesman said today: “The University is shocked and saddened by Sion Hardy’s death and our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.

“Sion was well-known and well-liked and had a close group of friends within the department of Civic Design. He was a very able student who would have gone on to a promising career in Planning.

“The University is offering every possible support to his friends and other students who may have been affected by the news and is working closely with Merseyside Police in support of the investigation.”

Detectives are examining CCTV footage to try and establish what happened and have also made inquiries with businesses in the area.

Patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure the public.

A post mortem to establish the cause of death will be held later today.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: “The student had spent the evening with friends at the Medication Club in Wolstenholme Square.

“After leaving the venue he became involved in an argument and while walking through a tunnel at nearby Turnage Road.

“Police were alerted by ambulance crews who had been called to the scene after the victim was assaulted.

“A post mortem will take place to establish the cause of death.

“We have also increased patrols in the area.”
