Man shot in Allerton

A 20-year-old man was shot in a targeted attack last night, police said this morning.

The unidentified man was hit in the side while he was waiting for friends to collect him at a roundabout in Allerton, Liverpool.

The man was standing at the junction of Melbreck Road and Greenhill Road when a car approached “at speed” and a shots were fired.

When his friends arrived they rushed him to hospital.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “Police received a call at approximately 10.20pm to say shots had taken place and the victim was on route to hospital.

“At this stage of the inquiry there is no known motive for the attack however, it is believed to be targeted.”

The man, who is from Allerton, is currently in hospital and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening, said the spokesman.

House to house enquiries have begun and officers have increased their numbers in the area to reassure the community.
