Police close off Childwall roads after shots heard

POLICE set up cordons in two streets last night following reports of shots being fired in a Liverpool suburb.

Both reported incidents took place at around the same time and less than a mile apart in the Childwall area.

The first was in Glendevon Road, where officers were called at 5.20pm following reports of shots fired at a stationary car.

There were no people in the car at the time and no injuries were reported.

Shortly afterwards, officers were called to a second report of shots being fired in Childwall Valley Road, at its junction with Paignton Road.

A member of the public reported that shots were fired following a two-vehicle collision.

On arrival, crime scene investigators found debris on the road consistent with a car accident.

A Merseyside police spokesman last night said he could not confirm whether a firearm had been discharged at the scene, and that the cordon would remain in place today while more detailed examinations were carried out.

He added it was not known whether the two incidents were linked.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of either incident, or anyone who has information which could help the police can contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 5469 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
