A MERSEYSIDE authority has the worst GCSE and A level record in the country, damning figures reveal today.
Schools in Knowsley finished bottom for GCSE results, including Maths and English. And Liverpool also suffers embarrassment, with Parklands in Speke named worst in the country for its GCSE results.
Barely a quarter – 26.7%– of Knowsley’s school leavers achieve a government-recognised standard.
Across Merseyside, 41 schools could face closure or being taken over if Gordon Brown follows through on a plan to target schools where 30% of pupils do not achieve five good GCSE grades.
There is a brighter picture elsewhere, as Liverpool’s Cardinal Heenan and Archbishop Beck enjoy major improvements, along with Cowley College, in St Helens, and Frodsham Science and Technology College.
