Merseyside delivery driver murder: Man released on bail

A ST HELENS man has been released on bail after he was arrested on suspicion of the murder of a Merseyside delivery driver.

Henry McHarron, 61, was working for WH Smith’s news distribution, and had been dropping off newspapers at Stopgate convenience store on Stopgate Lane, Norris Green, at 6am on April 21 last year.

The thief jumped into the driver’s seat of the white Ford Aveco van and drove off while Mr McHarron was still inside.

The jolt threw the father-of-three out of the open door of the van and he hit his head on the ground, suffering serious injuries.

Mr McHarron’s wife Christina and children Neil, Lynne and Claire maintained a vigil at his bedside, but he died two days later.

The 30-year-old suspect was being questioned by police last night.
