Hundreds rescued from flooded homes in Huyton

Flooding in Huyton

RESIDENTS in Huyton are being evacuated from their homes by inflatable rafts after drain water and raw sewage flooded into their homes.

Residents in the Liverpool Road area of the village said mains burst at around 3.30pm sending gallons and gallons of water into their homes and down neighbouring roads.

In some areas flood water had risen to over 3ft and council workers were arriving at the scene with dozens of sandbags to try and protect properties from further damage.

A United Utilities spokesperson said: “Our engineers are attending a major water main burst in the Huyton area of Merseyside.

“The police and fire brigade are also in attendance.

“We will be taking urgent action to isolate the damaged main, and repair the burst.

“Initial reports indicated that around 10 homes have been flooded, and many households are currently without water.

“We will be doing everything we can to restore water supply to affected homes this evening.

“Loss adjustors have been dispatched to the scene, to liaise directly with households affected by water damage.

“Residents who are without water may be struggling to get through to us at present, due to high call volumes.

“However, we would advise residents that they do not need to contact us at this stage. We are aware of the problem – and are working hard to rectify it.”
