Wirral husband poisoner sentenced to 30 years

Kate Knight

A WIRRAL woman was today sentenced to 30 years in prison for poisoning her husband with anti-freeze.

Kate Knight, who cried throughout sentencing, from Moreton, who left husband Lee blind and deaf, was sentenced at Staffordshire Crown Court.

Mr Knight, 37, managed to survive despite spending 16 weeks in a coma after being admitted to hospital.

He also suffered brain damage and kidney failure.

The 28-year-old mother was found guilty following a three-week trial last month.

Knights trial was told that she laced her husband’s food with ethylene glycol bought from Tesco on their seventh wedding anniversary in April 2005.

The jury which convicted the former accountancy student was also told that she stood to gain £130,000 from her husband’s death after forging her partner’s signature to take out two secret loans.

Her address in court was given as Dovedale Court, Garrick Avenue, Moreton but she is thought to have moved to Childwall Avenue, also Moreton.
