A NEWSAGENT was found murdered after a suspected robbery in his shop today.
The man, who has not yet been named, was discovered by a member of the public in the store on Dinas Lane, Huyton, just after 7.30am.
Reports that he had been stabbed to death have yet to be confirmed by police but a Home Office post-mortem is set to be carried out later today.
The customer found the shopkeeper lying in a pool of blood and called for an ambulance, who in turn alerted police. The victim died at the scene.
The shop and much of the surrounding parade was sealed off as forensic officers worked inside, combing for clues.
CCTV from inside the store is to be looked at and house-to-house enquiries are on-going.
A Merseyside Police spokeswoman said: “We are investigating the death of a man whose body was found at a newsagents.
“Paramedics were called and the man was declared dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are now underway but the investigation is at a very early stage.”
