Sir Paul McCartney will take to the stage in Liverpool tonight to mark the city’s Capital of Culture Year.
The 65-year-old will headline a show called Liverpool Sound, at Liverpool FC’s Anfield Stadium.
The former Beatle will be joined on the bill by Liverpool group The Zutons, the Kaiser Chiefs and Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl at the sell-out 45,000 seater.
Speaking earlier this week Sir Paul said the audience would get some surprises at the concert.
When asked what sort of set he was planning for the concert, he said: “It’s always a difficult one, that, because it’s just my set, it’s just what I’m doing at the moment, but with some new surprises put in especially for Liverpool.”
Sir Paul’s daughter Stella McCartney will also unveil her latest fashion range at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) before the show in the evening.
John Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono said on Friday that she would be going to both events during her weekend visit to the European Capital of Culture.
Speaking on Friday about the Liverpool Sound event, Ono said: “Of course I am going to be there.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
Ono was speaking at an exhibition of artwork by Lennon being held at Liverpool City Exchange.
Highlights of the concert will be shown on BBC Two and broadcast on BBC Radio Two Sunday. For more information on the concert log on to www.liverpool08.com.
