Five men have denied the murder of a Somali teenager who was beaten to death in a Liverpool park.
Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim, 17, was attacked in Sefton Park last March and a post-mortem examination revealed the cause of death was "blunt force trauma".
Ahmed was a student who worked part time in a specialist bakery which made nutritional food products to be shipped to developing countries.
He came to the UK in June last year and was living in Liverpool with his mother Asiya, who left war-torn Mogadishu a year earlier.
She sat in the public gallery of Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday as the five men were formally charged with her son’s murder.
Khadar Mohammed, 22, Essa Mohammed Ismail, 21, and Ali Mohammed, 19, of Ritson Street, Liverpool, Ibrahim Ahmed, 22, of Northbrook Road, Liverpool, and Ahmed Kayse Ahmed, 29, of St Mary Street, Greenwich, London, pleaded not guilty to murdering the teenager on March 11.
They also pleaded not guilty to violent disorder on the day before the murder.
A further charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm was denied by Khadar Mohammed, Essa Mohammed Ismail and Ibrahim Ahmed.
All were remanded in custody to face trial on October 27.
