Police name stab victim found in fire

Tarleton house fire

A WOMAN found murdered in a house fire in Ormskirk was named today.

The body of Pamela Mulholland, 52, was found with stab wounds inside a blazing house.

The grim discovery was made after firefighters were called to the house in Heritage Way, Tarleton, near Ormskirk, in the early hours of yesterday.

They broke down the door and rescued a 58-year-old man who was taken to hospital in Ormskirk suffering smoke inhalation.

He was later arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Leyland police station for questioning, where he remains today.

A post mortem examination confirmed Mrs Mulholland died of stab wounds.

It took firefighters more than three hours to bring the fierce blaze under control at the newly-built £350,000 house on a private development.

Fire station manager Mark Wissett said: “Unfortunately, upon entry to the property, firefighters found the body of a female who was deceased.”

A Lancashire police spokesman said the suspect was under arrest and would be questioned by murder detectives.
