Southport walker rescued off the top of Snowdon

A SOUTHPORT walker was among two people rescued off Snowdon yesterday.

The 35-year-old was winched to safety by a search and rescue helicopter from the summit.

Rescue 122, based at RAF Valley were called at 11.20am after the man suffered a minor leg injury and exhaustion.

He was on his second day of the three peaks challenge, having driven down from the Lake District the previous night.

He was taken to Bangor Hospital within four minutes along with another member of his group.

Later that day, the team were once again scrambled after a 60-year-old man fell 20ft whilst descending Tryfan.

Rescue 122 lowered a winchman, Sgt Ed Griffiths, to the casualty who was 50ft below the summit of Bwlch Tryfan.

The man suffered head, chest and arm injuries and was flown to Bangor Hospital.

Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team (OVMRT) helped to stabilise him and put him on a stretcher before the helicopter arrived.

Rescue 122 provides a free, 24hour, all weather, search and rescue cover to the area and has a radar, heat seeking camera, 245ft winch, medical equipment and trained crew comparable with a front line ambulance.
