Teenage victim of rush hour hit and run

A TEENAGE boy suffered serious chest injuries after being struck by a hit and a run driver.

The 15-year-old pedestrian was rushed to hospital after the incident in the city centre during rush hour yesterday.

The boy, who is local, was struck by a blue and white coloured Ford Transit van outside the Marybone takeaway on Vauxhall Road, close to its junction with Tithebarn Street, at 5pm.

The driver fled the scene without stopping and was seen by witnesses to turn right down Tithebarn Street and head in the direction of the river Mersey.

Witnesses have described seeing the teenager lying in the road with an oxygen mask on before being transported to hospital.

The teenager’s injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

He was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital by ambulance where his condition is described as serious but stable.

Police are scouring CCTV footage from the area, including security camera footage from nearby shops and offices, in a bid to identify the vehicle and driver.

Vauxhall Road was sealed off to allow the crime scene to be examined.

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “We got a call at 5pm and conveyed a patient to the Royal Liverpool Hospital by ambulance.”

Anyone with information should contact Merseyside Police on 0151 777 4065 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
