Police appeal after baby memorial headstone defaced

EXCREMENT and eggs have been smeared over a baby memorial headstone in a Widnes graveyard.

The town cemetery’s Baby Garden holds headstones with the names of babies who were miscarried before 24 weeks.

When parents visited the site on Monday, they found excrement all over of the headstone commemorating their lost child.

They cleaned the memorial, only to return the next day to find it covered in raw eggs.

Police have said the vandals have caused huge upset to the people concerned and are appealing for information to catch those responsible.

A spokesman said: "It is disgusting, we need to catch these people.

"It has added to their grief in a very cruel way."

People with information should contact 0845 458000.
