Rail chaos after man jumps onto tracks at Orrell Park

A MAN was taken to hospital with multiple injuries after jumping onto tracks at a Liverpool train station.

The incident at 9.40am this morning at Orrell Park Station caused disruption to services until 10.25am, when Merseyrail's Ormskirk to Liverpool route was resumed.

An ambulance took the victim, whose condition is unknown at present, to Aintree hospital and British Transport Police were called to the scene.

A Merseyrail spokesman said: "A person appeared to jump onto the tracks causing disruption to trains running from Ormskirk to Liverpool.

"We are unaware at present of this person's condition.

"An incident such as this means all electricity has to be switched off so other routes in the area were also affected for a short time, such as the Kirkby to Liverpool service.

"The victim was quickly taken away by ambulance."
