Man detained on Wirral after woman killed

A MAN has been detained by police after a woman was killed on the Wirral.

The man was detained at a house in Locker Park, Greasby, at just before 5.30pm today. It is believed he was in possession of a bladed weapon.

Merseyside Police were called to reports of a domestic disturbance at before 2.30pm following a call from a member of the public.

Armed response officers were called to the property and the area was cordoned off along Pump Lane between West Kirkby Road and Frankby Road and members of the public were prevented from going to their homes.

Police officers are believed to have surrounded the property for a number of hours until the man was apprehended.

An armed response vehicle en route to the scene at 3.30pm was involved in an accident with another vehicle.

The ARV was in collision with a Vauxhaull Astra on Greasby Road at its junction with Circular Drive.

One police officer was taken to hospital with head injuries and a second has been treated for shock.

The two occupants of the Astra are not believed to have been injured.

The incident has been referred by Merseyside Police to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
