A murder investigation was launched today after the discovery of the body of a 42-year-old man, police said.

Merseyside Police were called to Holt Lane, Rainhill, at around 10.30pm last night, following reports of a man with head injuries.

He was later declared dead at the scene.

A Home Office post mortem is due to take place later today to determine the cause of death.

Merseyside Police said a 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is currently being questioned by police.

A police spokeswoman said: “House to house inquiries are ongoing and the area has been sealed for forensic investigations.

“Merseyside Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Holt Lane last night between 8.30pm and 11pm or anyone who has any other information about this incident.”
