Liverpool insurer Royal Sun Alliance to cut 1,200 jobs

Royal Sun Alliance

INSURANCE giant Royal & SunAlliance announced plans to axe 1,200 jobs today.

The cuts will come from its 8,700-strong UK workforce, including 1,200 employed in Liverpool.

A company spokesman said 260 staff have already left and they hope to lose a further 300 through natural wastage.

He added: "We hope to achieve the rest with minimal compulsory redundancies."

The move is aimed at achieving savings for the firm of £70m by mid-2010.

Today's job losses were announced in the company results that showed annual pre-tax profits grew by 13% to £759m.
