MORE than 500 angry students have gathered outside the University of Liverpool's Victoria Building to protest at plans to close key departments.
Politics and philosophy are among four departments where closure is being considered because they do not meet the "excellence" in research which Vice-Chancellor Sir Howard Newby is demanding.
The move has prompted a huge wave of criticism from students, lecturers and MPs. The University's Senate is meeting today to consider the move before a decision is made in June.
