Man killed by Merseysrail train at Waterloo

ALL trains have been suspended tonight on the Liverpool to Southport line after a man was killed by a train.

A Merseyrail driver reported hitting a person on the tracks in the to Waterloo area at about 9.45pm.

British Transport Police and paramedics were called but the casualty died at the scene.

South Road in Waterloo has been closed by police and is expected to remain closed for the next several hours.

Buses have now been laid on between Sandhills and Formby as crash scene investigators look into the circumstances of the incident.

It is unclear at this stage how or why the collision occurred but British Transport Police officers have launched an investigation on behalf the coroner, although the BTP are not treating the incident as a crime.

A Merseyrail spokesperson said that is was expected that trains will be running again by 11.30pm.
