BARCLAYS is to cut 188 jobs in Liverpool after it massively reduced its ISA processing team in the city.
The restructure will see 154 jobs lost at Moorfields and 34 at Wavertree Technology Park, and the staff were told the news this morning. Their roles have been replaced by an automated system which allows new accounts to be opened immediately.
A Barclays spokesperson said: “Barclays regularly reviews its operations and resources so that they function efficiently as business needs and customer requirements evolve.
“However these improvements for customers mean that unfortunately there is no longer the volume of work required to sustain the team that previously processed these accounts manually and this will therefore result in a small number of redundancies from the Liverpool area.
“Any job losses are of course regrettable but there will be a large number of opportunities for these people to be redeployed in alternative roles and Barclays remains committed to Wavertree and is a significant employer in the Liverpool area.”
The bank employs more than 1,000 staff in Liverpool.
